Steve is part of the eclectic jazz ensemble Sympatico that has been performing on the New England scene for decades. He is a versatile guitarist with his own unique contemporary sound that also pays homage to the past. One can hear the influence of the rich choral stylings of Joe Pass and Barney Kessel mixed with the intriguing linear and textural palettes of Jim Hall and George Benson in Steve’s sound. However, he doesn't merely copy - he builds upon their legacy, infusing it with contemporary influences and his own unique voice. Blended with these, are the harmonic expansions and rhythmic freedoms characteristic of post-modern and contemporary jazz, progressive rock and European art music.
Recently, Steve has been expanding his performance palette and sonic textural capabilities. These endeavors into new sonic forms aptly called Guitarscapes and Folktales & Fusions includes moody guitarscapes, textural transforms, acoustic guitar centered solo and ensemble pieces that range from the contemplative to barnstorming romps and classically derived fusions. Comparisons to Wilco’s Neils Cline and the great Bill Frissell in this developing sound highlight his adventurous spirit, his fearless exploration of atmospheric textures, soundscapes, and his ability to create unexpected juxtapositions and melodies that twist and turn with hypnotic charm.
Guitarscapes featured in Earth Movie Theatre “Live”, an immersive multimedia production, Folktales and Fusions and The Barney Set are among the three original projects that will reach fruition in regards to both live performances and music releases in 2024 and 25’
The Barney Set is a straight ahead jazz set in the styling of the late hard-bop guitar great Barney Kessel. It’s paying homage, it’s a challenge and it's fun.
The ability to grow, adapt and thrive among uncertainty are hallmarks of many creative entrepreneurs. So is with Steve’s multifaceted career path navigating through an ever-changing landscape.
